Katie Sowers is the second woman to hold a full-time NFL coaching position, and the first openly gay coach in the NFL. Katie is in her 4th season in the NFL and 2nd as an offensive assistant with the San Francisco 49ers.

Katie also coached and scouted for the Falcons after spending five years as the athletic director of the City of Kansas. Prior, Katie played in the WFA (women’s football alliance) for eight years leading to her being picked for the United States Women’s National Football Team. Katie has a master’s degree in kinesiology with an emphasis in pedagogy from the University of Central Missouri.

Katie stands for gender equity and equality. Instead of trying to blend into her hyper-masculine environment, she embraces her status as a role model. Katie is listed as one of the 100 most influential women in sports by Sport360; and won the 2019 rising star award; celebrating the most powerful women in sports. She was 2017 OutSport female hero of the year and named the Bleacher Report Power 50.

Katie has been the keynote speaker at several conferences such as the Sports Exchange Summit, SheBelives Summit, and NFL women’s careers in football. She has been featured in several publications and magazines, such as ESPN, USA Today, NFL.com, Forbes, and Outsports. Katie is incredibly influential to the LGBTQ+ and women’s community.
