FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS


GENERAL INFORMATION

  • Sum of Us Festival is a 21+ event. You MUST have valid photo ID present upon registration.

  • There are no “ins and outs” at this festival. There is no re-entry unless you it is a medical, or ADA requirement.

  • Sum of Us Festival is located in Modesto Reservoir Regional Park.

  • Weapons, large sound systems, glass, alcohol, illegal drugs, charcoal stoves, propane lanterns, animals/pets, and fireworks are strictly prohibited.

  • No fires allowed unless they are in premium fire pit areas. Fires must be out by 1am. *Allowance of fires is contingent upon fire marshal approval.

  • Outside generators are strictly prohibited for camping.

  • Wristbands must be worn at all times throughout the festival.

  • Wristbands are void if tampered or removed. No exceptions. Contact us immediately if you break your wristband.

  • Tickets are non-refundable. The festival goes on rain or shine!

  • The lineup and performance times are subject to change. Get on our mailing list to receive updates!

  • This is a safe space. Clothing IS optional!


IMPORTANT FAQ

WHAT DOES TRANSGENDER MEAN? +

The term transgender refers to people who have a gender identity or gender expression that differs from their assigned sex at birth. Often shortened to trans, the term transgender is also an umbrella term. In addition, it may include people who do not identify as male or female (or identify as both), and often includes non-binary, genderqueer, genderfluid, and agendered people.

WHAT DOES NON-BINARY MEAN? +

Gender is a spectrum. Non-binary often refers to individuals who do not fully identify with either male or female identities. People who identify as non-binary may also identify as trans, or genderqueer.

WHAT DOES WOMXN MEAN? +

Womxn includes the the following: cisgendered women, trans, and female identifying individuals.

ARE ANY PROCEEDS GOING TO NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS? +

Yes! We will be giving a portion of our proceeds to several different charities. So far, we have committed to giving some of our proceeds to WayOut, a non-profit organization which aims to empower LGBTQ+ youth to feel safe in all environments.

WHERE IS SUM OF US FESTIVAL?

WHERE ARE THE CLOSEST CITIES AND AIRPORTS TO SUM OF US FESTIVAL? +

We are conveniently located near many large cities and airports. We have created a list that you can find here!

ARE THERE GROUP CAMPSITES? +

Yes! Premium full hook-up group sites come with up to 8 wristbands! If you split the cost of the premium site with your group, you are getting the best deal!

IF I DON'T HAVE A TENT CAN I STILL COME? +

Good news! You can totally come if you don’t have a tent. Your options for accommodation range from renting a tent, buying a tent, sleeping in your car, under the stars, trailer, RV, etc. Get creative!

WHEN DO I HAVE TO LEAVE THE FESTIVAL BY? +

While we would LOVE to have you stay, unfortunately Sum of Us Festival ends Sunday May 17, 2020 at 5pm. You are still welcome to hang out until Monday morning, but no special events will be taking place. Latest check out is Monday May 18, 2020 at 9am.

CAN I SLEEP IN A NEARBY HOTEL? +

We would prefer that you sleep on premise, as we want to keep participants together. However, the closest hotel is 27 minutes away. If you need to stay in a hotel, please contact us directly so that we can be aware and try our best to accommodate all of US. We are not financially responsible for hotel room accommodation.

WILL ANYONE BE THERE TO HELP ME SET UP MY CAMPSITE? +

Please do your best to be self-reliant. We do have a beautiful community of people coming to this festival, so don’t be afraid to make friends and ask others to kindly help you.


PREPPING FOR THE FESTIVAL FAQ

WHAT DO I BRING TO THE FESTIVAL? +

Here is a general list of what to pack for the festival. Please be aware of your own individual needs and equipment that you may require, as everyone is different.

  • Bug spray

  • Sun protection

  • Water bottle/extra drinking water

  • Clothes for wellness activities, swimming, etc.

  • Running shoes, sandals, or water shoes

  • Tent/Trailer

  • Sleeping bag/Blankets

  • Flashlight

  • Yoga mat

  • Towel

  • Books for exchange or relaxation

  • Bathing soaps (only in showers, not reservoir)

  • Credit card for vendors and food

  • Silverware and plates

  • Firewood and lighter for premium fire pits

  • Costumes

  • Decorations for campsites

  • Dishware and plastic cups

  • Trash bags

At the end of the day, we want YOU to feel comfortable in your skin. You can adjust this list for your personal needs and individual style.

CAN I BRING MY OWN STOVE?

Due to the high fire risk there is absolutely no exception for the use of open flame fires, and charcoal stoves. However, propane stoves ARE allowed. You can also use electrical plugs. Thank you for understanding.

WHERE IS THE CLOSEST GAS STATION TO THE VENUE? +

The nearest gas station from Modesto Reservoir is roughly 15 minutes away located in Modesto, California. The address is 12828 Yosemite Boulevard Waterford, CA.

WHERE IS THE CLOSEST ATM? +

There are no ATM’s on site, so please plan accordingly! The closest banks to the festival are located in the heart of Modesto; roughly 30 minutes away from the festival venue.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE IN MODESTO RESERVOIR? +

The average temperature in May is 80-85 degrees, with temperatures hovering at around 60 degrees at night time. While it is generally sunny and dry during this time, please pack appropriate clothing just in case!

WHAT KIND OF WILDLIFE CAN I EXPECT TO SEE? +

You can expect to see a variety of animals and insects ranging from geese, birds, and mosquitos, among others. Please do not interact with any animals as we are coming into their home. Be sure to bring bug spray for pesky insects and mosquitos.

HOW DO I REGISTER WHEN I GET TO THE FESTIVAL? +

Upon entry to Sum of Us Festival, you will see the registration tent. There, you will pick up your weekend wristband. The registration tent is open from 11am-7pm on Friday May 15, 2020. If you expect to be late for registration please contact us here so that we can make special arrangements for you. You cannot enter the festival without a wristband. Security will be onsite.

ARE TICKETS REFUNDABLE? +

Only early bird tickets are refundable AND transferable, up until 90 days prior to the festival date. If you transfer a ticket, the original ticket purchaser MUST notify us, as we will be checking names and ID’s upon registration. Click here to fill out an ‘Early Bird Transferable Ticket Form’.

CAN YOU BUY TICKETS AT THE FESTIVAL? +

There are limited tickets for this event. However, we may add tickets leading up to and during the first day of the festival. We will keep you updated on all the important ticket info! If you purchase tickets at the event, you will still need to register online.

WILL CAMPSITES SELL OUT? +

Premium full hook-up campsites will sell out quickly. General admission camping will sell out depending on capacity. Click here to purchase your tickets, so you don’t miss out on any fun!

ARE THERE ANY LAYAWAY TICKET PLANS? +

At this time, we don’t have any layaway plans for tickets.

CAN CIS MEN BUY TICKETS/COME TO THE FESTIVAL? +

We are doing our best to create a safe space for womxn, trans, and non-binary folx at this time.

WHAT IF I CAN'T MAKE IT TO THE FESTIVAL, BUT I ALREADY PURCHASED A TICKET? +

Your tickets are not refundable, but early bird tickets are transferable. If you will be transferring your ticket you must fill out this form here.


DURING THE FESTIVAL FAQ

WHERE IS THE FESTIVAL SCHEDULE? +

You can click here to get all the details about workshops, schedules, and activity information.

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR WORKSHOPS? +

Workshops are first come, first served during the festival. Please be mindful of the workshop times that you’d like to attend so that you don’t miss them. Workshop times will be posted online leading up to the event in our workshops section.

WHAT HAPPENS IF A WORKSHOP IS FULL? +

We will not be able to let more than the maximum capacity into each workshop. Please arrive early to ensure that you are able to get into the desired workshop!

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND WORKSHOPS? +

No. You can attend as many, or as few workshops as you’d like. While Sum of Us Festival is a ‘choose-your-own-adventure’ styled event, we do suggest you attend at least a few workshops in order to grasp the essence of the festival. We promise you will have fun.

AM I ABLE TO SWIM IN THE RESERVOIR WATER? +

Yes, you can swim, float, paddle board, play water sports, tube, etc. at your own risk. Bathing in the reservoir is strictly prohibited, even if you have biodegradable soap.

IS THE RESERVOIR WATER SAFE TO DRINK? +

Without the reservoir water going through a verified filtration system, it is not safe to drink.

IS THERE DRINKING WATER AVAILABLE ON SITE? +

There will be water stations that are centrally located to campsites and the festival. Please bring a water bottle. Premium full hook-up campsites each have their own drinking water faucets. We strongly suggest preparing ahead of time and bringing your own water for the weekend!

WHERE CAN WE SHOWER? +

There are showers located in the central area of the festival. Please keep shower times to minimum.

ARE THERE MEDICAL STAFF ON SITE? +

We will have a medical tent on site. Please let us know if you have any serious medical conditions that we need to be aware of beforehand.

WHERE CAN I THROW OUT MY TRASH? +

We will have several trash bins located around the festival. Please clean up after yourself and respect the land. Please reuse what you can. As one of our principles states, “leave no trace.”

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE SOMETHING? +

We will have an area in the central region of the festival labeled "Lost and Found". Please check the Lost and Found area if you think you lost something!

WILL THERE BE FOOD FOR PURCHASE AT THE FESTIVAL? +

There will be a variety of food trucks available with excellent food options, as well as vegan, vegetarian, gluten free, and dairy free choices. You can purchase food with credit card. Check out our foods trucks and vendors here!

CAN I BRING MY OWN FOOD? +

Yes, you can bring your own food and snacks. We suggest that you keep any external food protected from insects and animals. We will not have a refrigerator to store any personal food items.

WILL THERE BE ALCOHOL FOR PURCHASE? +

Since this is a 21+ event, we will be serving alcohol via our very own Tap Truck. Please drink responsibly.

CAN I BRING MY OWN ALCOHOL? +

Any external alcohol brought into the event is prohibited. There will be security checkpoints upon entry into the festival.

IS THERE A DESIGNATED SMOKING AREA? +

While this is a mindfulness festival, we don’t judge. There WILL be a designated smoking area. Smoking outside of this area is completely prohibited. Please make sure that you put your cigarettes out and dispose of them accordingly.

WILL THERE BE WIFI? +

we will not have wifi on premise, however some areas will have better wireless connection than others. Please do your best to stay present; be mindful of how much time you are on your phone especially around others who are not. When the time seems right, we are happy to have you tag @sumofusfest #sumofus and #sumofusfest upon posting. There will be great photo opportunities throughout the festival.

WILL I BE ABLE TO CHARGE MY PHONE? +

Premium full hook-up campsites have electricity. You can charge your phone there, or bring a portable travel charger.


ACCESSIBILITY FAQ

IS THIS FESTIVAL WHEELCHAIR ACCESSIBLE? +

Yes. We have two premium full hook-up ADA campsites that come with up to 8 wristbands. We have ADA bathrooms on site. Please DO NOT book an ADA site if you DO NOT need wheelchair accessibility. We will do our best to accommodate your needs. The land is grass and dirt, so if you require a wheelchair please let us know so that we can do our best to accommodate you!

WHAT IS THE TERRAIN LIKE AT THE VENUE?

Our venue is mostly level ground, on compact earth, with the exception of a few grassy inclines. There are no stairs. In workshops that are less interactive, participants will be sitting on pillows, the floor, yoga mats, or towels. We will make sure there are a few chairs in each workshop reserved for the ADA community.

WILL THERE BE ACCOMMODATION FOR HEARING IMPAIRED FOLX? +

At Sum of Us Festival we believe that ALL of US should have an equal opportunity to enjoy the festival. We are currently doing the best we can to accommodate for all disabilities. Please let US know if you require sign language so that we can give you the best experience possible.

ARE THERE CAMPSITES AVAILABLE THAT ARE ADA? +

We want to be accommodating for all of our participants. Attendees with disabilities are welcome to General Admission camping or Premium camping.

  • We have specifically set aside 2 Premium ADA Campsites that are ADA approved.

  • Our ADA campsites are closer in proximity to the main bathrooms and showers.

  • ADA premium sites are wider than other premium sites.

  • ADA sites are reserved for people with disabilities, and may not be purchased fraudulently.

HOW IS SUM OF US FESTIVAL GOING TO MAKE THE NECESSARY ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THE DISABLED COMMUNITY? +

We believe in disability justice, and are doing our best to make all the necessary arrangements so that as many womxn, trans and non-binary folx can enjoy Sum of Us Festival. Please contact us so that we can make any changes or improvements for our participants.
